Video Spotlight: Stephanie Becker Dedication Ceremony
By Dave Ruden on April 28, 2013 at 8:00 PM

Stephanie Becker was one of the most accomplished high school students I’ve covered or worked with in 30 years. I wrote about her as a three-sport athlete at Westhill, consulted with her when she was managing editor of the school’s student newspaper, The Westword, and watched with admiration as she went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, a springboard to a distinguished professional career as a senior management consultant for IBM.

And like everyone else, I was crushed when Stephanie died tragically last October at the age of 28.

Westhill hosted a dedication ceremony in Stephanie’s memory Sunday afternoon, with a gift of a hitting board on the tennis courts, where she dominated, from her Class of 2002. That was followed by a walk in part to benefit the Stephanie Becker Fund, with a mission of promoting emotional health and resilience, removing the stigma associated with psychological health issues and their treatment, and to prevent suicide.

I covered and wrote a column on today’s activities, which you can read here.
